Brantford Midget “A” Ice Cats 2014-15 Team Philosophy and Program
Philosophy
The 2014 Midget A Ice Cats will be one of the hardest working teams in LLFHL that will compete at the highest level possible representing the city of Brantford, their families and themselves with pride and respect both on and off the ice. Our systems will be integrated according to team strengths and will be implemented by a coaching staff that has a wealth of experience as players in the American Hockey League, NCAA, OHL, Tier Two Junior A and the Junior B level. Our open door policy between both players and coaches will be instrumental in creating a family type atmosphere where the coaches care about players, and players care about each other. Our commitment to this team and the program that will be implemented will ensure that these high level athletes have every resource available to them to excel to the fullest of their potential.

Players with drive factor who will out compete/out will other teams and don’t rely on skill alone. Those who care about team success more than individual success and who are positive and coachable.
Program Overview
Commencing the first of June off-ice and on-ice programs will be starting to ensure that all players are in the best of shape possible to start the season and there will be testing evaluations done the first of September. Off-ice individual programs will also be given to each player from our off-ice strength and conditioning coach to use throughout the summer. Nutritional programs will be included to create healthy training habits from training experts in the field. The coaching staff will challenge each player with specific skills to work on throughout the summer as well. We will also be planning a few team building activities to help create a team bond amongst our players in the summer and throughout the year.
The season will get underway in late August with an emphasis on conditioning, offense and defensive systems, and an early season tournament in September plus 4 additional tournaments. We will be utilizing video throughout the year to gain a better understanding of the team and players overall game, positioning and creativity both offensively and defensively.
Skills Development will be an ongoing part of this program with the addition of power skating instructors, stickhandling, shooting and conditioning. Motivational talks/engagements geared towards, discipline, sacrifice, work ethic and life lessons, will be part of the program from ex-professional and NHL players, professional coaches and other pro athletes from various sporting careers to give their perspective on what was involved for them to achieve their ultimate goal.
With the extensive hockey background amongst the coaching staff and a vast network of contacts at the Junior, NCAA and NHL levels we will be doing everything in our power to network with recruiters from all levels for future advancement of the players so they can get their hockey careers to the next level if that is their desire. Statistical and video packages if applicable will also be part of the program to help promote the players.
We the Brantford Ice Cats Midget A Coaches and staff are excited for the upcoming year and look forward to having your daughter be part of our team and enhance her minor hockey career with our first class girl’s hockey program.
