Clinic Introduction The Goaltending Level 1 Clinic is part of the Instructional Coaching Stream of the National Coach Certification Program (NCCP). It is a competency-based program designed for coaches that are working with all goaltenders at the Beginner level.
Clinic Certification Requirements The Instructional Stream – Goaltender Level 1 Clinic is not a requirement at any level by the NOHA. It is a recommendation through the NOHA Elite Hockey Review.
Learning Outcomes The desired learning outcomes of the Instructional Stream – Goaltender Level 1 Clinic are the following:

  • To learn how to effectively communicate with your goaltenders.
  • To learn how to incorporate goaltenders into your overall practice plan.
  • To learn how to teach the fundamentals skills of goaltending.

Clinic Structure The clinic is 3.5 hours in length spread out over one day. Throughout the day, coaches will review interactive Clinic Modules on the following topics:

  • The Canadian Goaltender Identity
  • Incorporating Goaltenders into Practice
  • Communication
  • Roles of a Goaltender Coach
  • Skating/Stance
  • Angles
  • Puck Control

The clinic is on February 18, 2018 running from 11:15 AM to 3:00 PM.
Please bring a pen or pencil to the clinic. The clinic includes an ice session at the RHP Training Centre with minor hockey goaltenders on February 18, 2018, therefore, participants must bring a CSA approved helmet, gloves, skates, and stick.
Professional Development By attending this Goaltender Level I Coaching Clinic, you will receive a total of five (5) Professional Development Points towards either your Development 1 "Certified" or High Performance 1 "Certified" status.

The Greater Toronto Hockey League's Development 1 is the certification required by Hockey Canada for head coaches of all rep level hockey (A, AA, AAA). Upon completion of the D1 course, a coach will become D1 trained. Full certification at the D1 level requires the completion of follow-up components which include a Making Ethical Decisions post clinic online evaluation through the Coaching Association of Canada’s website, the completion of a written assignment reviewed by a GTHL mentor, and an evaluation by GTHL mentor.
The GTHL includes the Hockey Canada Body Checking course in our Development 1. This course does not include Hockey Canada's Harassment and Abuse certification (Speak-out).
This 2-day course includes topics such as; team building with athletes, skills and progression, body checking, season planning, practice design, goalkeeping, offense and defense, individual/team tactics, and practice to game transitions. New to our course is the National Coaching Certification Program's (NCCP) M.E.D- Making Ethical Decisions workshop, which assists coaches in identifying the legal, ethical and moral implications of difficult situations that present themselves in team and individual sport. On-ice training with coaches designing and delivering the above topics is also part of this course.

Please note you will be required to bring skates a CSA approved helmet, gloves and a stick for the on-ice component. Please note: A lunch meal is not provided during the lunch break. Your clinic will begin promptly at 8:00am.
