Phishing Emails
A phishing email
is a cybercrime that relies on deception to steal confidential information from
users and organizations.
Phishing
victims are tricked into disclosing information they know should be kept
private. Because they trust the source of the information request and believe
the party is acting with the best intentions, phishing email victims typically
respond without thinking twice.
In the
past, there have been notifications to the Board of members receiving emails
requesting money or an action, etc.
THE
BGHA BOARD MEMBERS WILL NEVER REQUEST MONEY VIA EMAIL.
TIPS on identifying Phishing Emails:
- Look at the email address closely. While the name will be someone you know (i.e., board member or a member of your coaching team), the address will be suspicious (i.e., [email protected])
- Look for spelling or grammar errors or weird formatting in the email
- Don’t trust the links – if there is a link in this email – do not click it
- Do not open any attachments, either
- Do not be intimidated by threats or stories of peril
- Do not respond to these emails
Please report these emails to Lisa.
Delete the email from your inbox and your deleted folders.
