Atom A take Silver at the 39th Walter Gretzky Tournament – February 21 – 23, 2020
Wow! This team kept us on the edge of our seats this weekend!
The Atom A Ice Cats were in a Round Robin with 4 other teams: the Ancaster Avalanche, Peterborough Ice Kats, Etobicoke Dolphins and the St. Catharine’s Brock Jr. Badgers.
In the Round Robin, our younger Ice Cats played:
Ice Cats playing Ancaster Avalanche: 1 - 1
Ice Cats playing Peterborough Ice Kats: 3 - 0
Ice Cats playing St. Catharine’s Brock Jr. Badgers: 1 - 3
Ice Cats playing Etobicoke Dolphins: 3 - 3
The girls came out in 2nd place in the Round Robin which meant they would play the 3rd place team (Etobicoke Dolphins) in the Semi-Finals. The winner of the Semi-Finals would go on to the Championship Game.
It was a tight game – but the Cats came through with a 1 – 0 win over the Dolphins – now on to the Final.
The Final Championship game on Sunday afternoon was against the Ancaster Avalanche. This team definitely showed their stuff with a nail-bitter game. The game ended 1 – 2 for Ancaster and the Cats winning a SILVER!
Winning a medal is icing on the cake at the end of the regular season!
