BGHA Ice Kittens Program 2018/19
BIG SMILES from some of our Ice Kittens
The BGHA was able to provide 2 sessions of Ice Kittens this season.
We had many of last year's Ice Kittens move up to Tykes
which facilitated the ability to focus on Fundamentals for this
season's Ice Kittens.
This season, 25 players participated in one or both of the Ice Kitten sessions. |

The FUNdamental stages of Hockey Canada’s Long-Term Player Development (LTPD) Model serves as the foundation upon which the entire youth hockey association is built. Youngsters at every level of play benefit from getting the “right start” in the game and it is crucial in building the skills of house league and competitive players alike. |

The core focus of the program is an emphasis on proper skating technique, as players will work on developing the basic mechanisms of a strong and efficient skating stride and improving balance and agility. Over the course of the program, lessons will include forward and backwards stride, starts & stops, crossovers, and tight turns. Instructors will also introduce the key concepts of passing, shooting, and maintaining puck control, in order to ensure well-rounded development. |

There is an emphasis on creating a fun, challenging environment for players to learn the beginning principles of skating in equipment, stick-handling and puck skills. This will assist in the development and enhancement of physical literacy and basic motor patterns. |
