Senior A - Journey to the GHWHL Championship Weekend and OWHA Provincials 2018/19, Accomplishments (Brantford Girls Hockey Association)

Congratulations to the Senior A Ice Cats who took the GHWHL Championship Weekend and are going to this year’s OWHA Provincials!

Here is their journey this season.

The Regular Season

Our Senior A Ice Cats play within the Golden Horseshoe Women’s Hockey League (GHWHL).  This league consists of 8 teams:  St. Catharine’s Jets, Kitchener Lady Rangers, Oakville Hornets, Guelph Jr Gryphons, McMaster Marauders, Hamilton Hawks, Ancaster Avalanche and the Ice Cats.

Many of our Senior A Ice Cat players have been on the team for multiple years, making them a tight team.  Although this season we did have a couple of players become 'new moms' - which are off-ice wins.  This meant we had one of the biggest team changes in the past couple of years.  We now have a couple of newly expectant moms - congratulations!

This was a great season for this team who played 24 regular season games; ending with 15 wins – 6 losses – 3 ties.

The Cats ended in 2^nd place for the regular season.

Many of our younger Ice Cat players will know some of the Senior Players as they do give back to the association by volunteering their time as Ice Cat Coaches and Trainers.

GHWHL Championship Weekend
.

All 8 teams competed in the Championship Weekend at the Burford Arena.  The Play-offs have the teams divided into 2 Pools.  Pool A was the top 4 teams for the season which included the Kitchener Lady Rangers, Oakville Hornets, St. Catharine’s Jets and the Ice Cats.  The remaining teams completed Pool B.

Moving up to the finals, the team won against the Kitchener Lady Rangers and the Oakville Hornets with both game finals were 4-3.  Their third game against the St. Catharines Jets was a loss.   
 
The final play-off game was with St. Catharines.  A close and exciting game that was 3-3 at the end of the 3rd period.  A sudden death 4th period ended quickly with the Ice Cats making the winning goal!

OWHA Playdowns

Our Senior A time was in Pool M where the Cambridge Roadrunners and Kitchener Lady Rangers were included.
All 3 teams were to move forward to the Provincials.

OWHA Provincials
.

Our Senior A team are in Pod E.  They will be playing against the Guelph Jr. Gryphons, Ottawa Roadrunners and the Scarborough Sharks.
Friday began with a bang in a game against the Ottawa Roadrunners - a win (4-0).  This was followed by a game against the Scarborough Sharks where the team won again (4-3).
Saturday started with a tie game against the Guelph Jr. Gryphons (1-1).
The Senior A Ice Cats ended up in the Quarter-Final Game against the Scarborough Sharks where they unfortunately lost (3-1)
